Bat Project

Bat photo by Ian Cantley

We have managed to secure a grant to start a Ruislip Woods Bat Group. This grant of £1000 from  ”The Forestry Commission’s Community Grant Scheme”  has been used to purchase  new bat detectors and survey equipment and London Borough of Hillingdon has donated some new bat boxes.

The Bat Conservation Trust has offered to run some training courses to teach volunteers how to use the bat detectors, carry out surveys and lead walks. A survey of bats in Park Wood will then be carried out before the new boxes are put up then another survey will be carried out later  to see whether the nesting opportunities have encouraged more bats and a greater diversity of bats to take up residence in the woods. We hope that this will be an interesting and well supported venture.

If you would like to get involved in any way, or would just like to know more about the work the Bat Group will be doing and the training that will be offered please get in touch with the secretary.
